Conditions attached to a held seat
These terms apply when you send a deposit for a Skillsupgradesg course in 2026, or when you book a private bench. They sit alongside the dates, fees and cancellation notes on terms-dates.php.
Booking
A seat is held when the S$80 deposit clears. Until then, another person may take the last place. We confirm by e-mail from [email protected]. The balance is due on the first session. If it is unpaid by the end of that session, the seat is released and the deposit is kept, because materials were already prepared for six.
This website does not take payment. Bank transfer and PayNow to the studio are the methods we use. You must be 18 or older to book, or a parent or guardian must book for a younger person and attend with them if we agree the course is suitable. Most benches are adult groups; ask before you assume a child can take a spare seat.
Cancellation, transfer, waiting lists
More than 14 days before the first session, you may cancel and receive the deposit back by the same method, or transfer once to the next term at no cost. Inside 14 days the deposit is kept. You may name another person for the same course and term if you write before session one.
Waiting lists are free. We contact names in order when a seat is released more than 14 days before the first session, and we wait three days for a deposit. Ceramics and joinery often wait a term. Missed sessions are made up only at the open bench where the course allows it. Dye and coffee usually cannot be made up.
The room, tools and safety
You will follow the induction for any power tool, wear closed shoes for joinery and ceramics, and stop if the tutor says the tool or the heat is being used badly. The studio may refuse a seat, or end a place without refund of the remaining sessions, if conduct puts other people or the kiln at risk.
The building is a second-floor walk-up with eighteen steps. You accept that layout when you book an upstairs course. Ground-floor arrangements exist only for coffee and lettering, and only if we confirmed them in writing.
Kitchen courses involve food. Tell us about allergens before the deposit. We will send the list for that term. We cannot remove gluten from the sourdough course while wheat is in the room.
Your work, and ours
What you make is yours. Take it home at the end of the course, or at the open bench if a firing is still cooling. Pieces left more than 30 days after the last session may be used as studio samples or disposed of. We will e-mail once before that happens.
Recipe sheets, cutting lists and glaze notes we hand you may be used for your own making. They may not be copied as a competing course. Photographs of your own work are yours. Please ask before you photograph another person’s piece or the tutor’s demonstration from an angle that shows a face clearly.
There is no certificate and no assessment. A letter confirming attendance is available on request and states course, dates and hours only.
If something fails
Clay cracks. Loaves flatten. Colour shifts. We will remake a firing that failed because of the kiln, at the next open bench where the schedule allows. We will not refund a whole fee because a first handle hairlined or a first loaf opened on the side; those are part of the course as described on approach.php.
If we have to cancel a session, we will offer a make-up or a refund of that session’s share of the fee. If we cancel a whole course before it starts, we return the deposit and any balance in full. We are not responsible for travel costs to Kampong Glam, or for lost income from a stall you hoped to stock.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that Singapore law does not allow us to limit.
