What people ask before they book

All nine courses are taught so a beginner can finish the work. Pricing and Selling Small-Batch Work is the exception of a kind: you should bring an object you already make, even if you have never sold it. Joinery uses hand tools first; machines wait until after a short induction and you may skip them.

Clay and firing, timber and consumables, flour and starter, vegetables and jars, beans for coffee, ink, paper, thread, board, cloth and dye stuffs. Aprons and the shared tool wall stay here. You may bring a favourite knife, brush or chisel. The S$80 deposit is part of the fee, paid by transfer, and the rest is due on the first session.

Write to us with the course and term, or drop in on a Saturday afternoon. We send PayNow or bank details by e-mail. When S$80 clears, the seat is held. This website does not take payment. If the course is full we will say so and add you to the waiting list without a deposit.

Tell us when you know. Ceramics, joinery, bread, lettering and binding can usually be patched at the open bench on the last Saturday of term. Dye and coffee are harder, because the vat and the roast are timed to those sessions. We will not add a seventh person to another bench so you can “catch a class”.

12 Kandahar Street, #02-03, Kampong Glam, Singapore 198884. From Bugis MRT it is about seven minutes on foot, toward Arab Street and then into Kandahar. There is no studio car park. If you drive, use public car parks in the district and walk the last stretch. The door is on the second floor.

The studio is eighteen steps up. The building has no lift. Filter Coffee Fundamentals and Brush Lettering and Calligraphy can be taught on the ground floor by arrangement. Say so when you hold the seat. The kiln, vat, oven and tool wall stay upstairs, so the other seven courses stay there too.

Yes. S$1,800 covers three sessions of three hours for six people, with materials and the bench tutor, on a course from the current list. Private benches sit on weekday mornings or Sunday afternoons when public courses are not firing or baking. Write with three date windows.

There is no certificate and no assessment. The work is the record. If an employer or a visa officer needs confirmation, we will write a letter on studio paper with the course name, the dates and the hours you attended. That letter states facts. It does not grade you.

Closed shoes for joinery and ceramics. Clothes that may take dye on Sundays. Hair tied back at the kitchen bench. We supply aprons. Jewellery that catches on timber or dough is better left at home. For coffee and lettering, ordinary indoor clothes are fine.

We keep names in the order they arrive. A released seat, more than 14 days before the first session, goes to the first name. You then have three days to send the deposit. Ceramics and joinery typically wait one term. A waiting-list place costs nothing and needs no deposit. Write if you want your name taken off.
